Rook- According to Webster's dictionary. (n.)- A piece in chess, usually called the castle piece, it can move freely up and down or side to side across the board when a free space is open.
(n.) A member of the Corvidae family in the passerine order of birds. Their name in Latin translates to food-gathering. Typically a Rook is another word for crow.
However, for now, lets take a step back and talk about Rook; a pose store within the world of Second Life and an amazing little gem tucked away on a beautiful sim. I recently sat down with the owner and asked a few questions as I was generally curious and because this is a journey of 1000 miles, I couldn't leave this place without extensive exploration. Here is the interview:
Name: Nadia Voljeti
Store name: Rook Poses
How did you come up with the name?
I have a great liking for rooks, the bird. Which are a type of black bird...and the rook is also my favorite piece in chess, so...the name sort of stuck.
How long have you been making poses?
Oh lawd, I've been making poses on and off for about two years...give or take a few months.
What type of poses do you make? (IE animated poses or are they static poses used for photography?)
I mostly make static poses for photography. I tend to lean more to the fantasy side of things. How ever I will do poses that are more "standard" poses for modeling and the like.
I have also done some specialty poses for some other creators in Second Life.
Why did you want to start making poses?
Hmm good question. I started making them for my store when I came to realize I wanted to do something more with my photos, finding just that RIGHT pose was never easy. Now I make them for the simple love of being able to share what I've done.
Is there a certain pose you are super excited about? (You know, something you just love to show off.)
Actually no, I'm equally excited about each pose I have ever made. To me that would be sort of like being more excited about one child's sport and being "meh" about the other child's sport. Silly, I know...but it is totally how I see it. Heh.
Do you plan on expanding anytime soon or in the future?
Expand? As in OUT of poses? Nah. I've tried it and found I don't have the passion for other stuff.
What exactly would you like to try to make along side poses?
If I ever did expand I'd actually love to make horns, ears, and tails...I love those sort of extra things. But for now I'll cheerfully stick with just poses.
More to come.....
